While you don’t have to be totally tech savvy to have a thriving life coaching business, here are 3 things you do need in order to serve your clients effectively.
Want some life coach advice on what technologies to implement in your life coaching business?
In addition to the computer or device you’re using to read this, there are three technologies I recommend you have in place at a minimum that will support you in connecting with and serving your life coaching clients:
MUST HAVE TECHNOLOGY #1: A phone number or a Skype account (or both)
As a life coach, you have the ability to design your business just the way you’d like it to be. If you’d prefer to coach your clients in person, you can do that! Or, you can coach them over the phone or, my preference, over Skype.
If you haven’t already used Skype, it’s incredibly easy! All you need is a computer, an internet connection, and a few minutes to create a free Skype account. Or, you can download the Skype app straight to your mobile and create an account there.
Using Skype, you can call your clients on their phone, which will cost you a small amount of money. Or you can call your client’s Skype account if they have one, in which case it’s free to call your client anywhere in the world!
If you’re calling another Skype account, you can also choose to do a video call, which will enable you to coach your client face-to-face in a virtual setting.
You can also do group audio calls and group video conferences over Skype, too!
If you’d like a little help in setting up your Skype account, simply go to YouTube and do a search for “how to set up Skype.” You’ll find tons of free videos that will walk you through how the simple steps to follow.
MUST HAVE TECHNOLOGY #2: An email address
The next technology you’ll need to run a successful life coaching business is an email address.
If you don’t already have one, I recommend Gmail – a basic email address is free, very simple to set up and very easy to use. In fact, we use Gmail for all of the email addresses we set up for new staff members at my company!
If you’d like help with setting up your Gmail account, again, simply go to YouTube and do a search for “how to setup Gmail.” You’ll find plenty of video demos that will walk you through how to do this.
MUST HAVE TECHNOLOGY #3: A way to process payments
Because you’re running a coaching business, you’ll need a way to accept money – preferably a way that’s very convenient for clients who want to enroll in a program with you.
Paypal is a very simple and low cost way to accept payments from clients without having to go the traditional route of applying for a merchant account, a credit card swiping machine, and so on.
A Paypal account is free to set up, and to use it, PayPal takes a very modest percentage of each transaction.
Once you’re account is activated, you can access it from any computer or smartphone, and you’ll be able to easily email notifications to your client requesting payments either by credit card or from the client’s own PayPal account.
Then, simply login to your PayPal account to request those funds be transferred straight into your bank account!

There are many other technological tools you can use to operate and grow your life coaching business…
But with the three tools I’ve mentioned above (and a computer, of course!), you’ll be able to serve your clients effectively.
Plus, as your business grows, you may want to consider hiring people to handle all your technology needs for you, so that you can focus on what you’re most passionate about – serving your clients. Hiring others is precisely what I’ve done in my own business!
